Kaliman's Story & Mission

Roots

Welcome to Kaliman Pottery! Kaliman pottery was created in 2017.

The name 'Kaliman' is actually a play on words-- 'Kali' by itself is the name of a Hindu Goddess, also called the 'dark mother' and 'mother nature'. She is the embodiment of feminine energy, destruction, and the cycle of life. She is also the goddess of art, and creativity, known to protect female devotees from physical and sexual violence. 'Kaliman' as a whole means 'clay from the earth' in my native language, Tamil, which orginiates from the very tip of South India.

My entire life, I've been surrounded by strong women that I sincerely look up to-- a single mother raising multiple children while succeeding in her career, female business owners who didn't and continue to not let anything get in their way when expressing their creativity or fighting for their cause, and my mother, who fights tremendous obstacles all day without a break.

Naming my first business with the idea of their strength behind it felt like paying my respects to my role models. No matter where I travel in life, I will always know that I'm capable of great things because I grew up in a place where your resilience is your power, and Kaliman will always be a reminder of that.
